Next up in our blog series on influential women in technology we are focusing on the President of Google across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), Debbie Weinstein. Did you know that every year there are 5 trillion searches on Google, and each day, 15% of those searches have never been searched before? These numbers continue to inspire those like Debbie Weinstein to push for more growth and accessibility in gaining access to desired information through Google searches.

This growth is set to be conducted with the help of artificial intelligence (AI), which is transforming the company and providing significant benefits to the world around us. Continue on to learn more about what Debbie Weinstein is known for and her impact in using AI for innovative new ways to empower the people of EMEA.

Debbie Weinstein’s Background

Debbie Weinstein was born and raised in Massachusetts, where she along with her brother quickly developed a curiosity that only continued to grow as she got older, searching for a way to be satiated. This inspired her work in ensuring ease of access to reliable information for everyone, as she sought to learn about everything easily at a young age. Weinstein went on to earn an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA from Brown University, and began her career as an investment banker in mergers and acquisitions at Goldman Sachs.

She spent some time as an entrepreneur looking to make a difference in the world, and founded a children’s food company called Swingset Kitchens, before shifting to working in sales, marketing, and strategy at media companies including Viacom, MTV Networks, and Bolt.com. Later in her career, she became Vice President of Global Media at Unilever, where she was responsible for piloting global communications planning, driving digital marketing, and leading global partnerships. Here, her extraordinary work was recognized with numerous awards, including Cannes Lions as well as the Game Changer honor from Advertising Women of New York.

Eventually, Debbie Weinstein moved on to join Google as Vice President of Global Advertiser Solutions for Google and YouTube. In this role, she ensured that businesses both big and small had the capabilities to build their businesses with YouTube and Video. She continued to climb the ranks through different roles to land where she is today.

Weinstein’s Career at Google

As she continued through the career ladder at Google, Debbie Weinstein became Vice President and Managing Director for Google in the United Kingdom and Ireland. She served as a leader for strong teams that were focused on business partnerships in both countries and worked to ensure that Google would play a role in helping everyone in the UK to thrive by achieving their ambitions through the use of responsible and impactful technology.

Almost a year ago, Weinstein was promoted to President of Google across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, responsible for leading the 29,000 employees across the region. She feels inspired when it comes to improving access to information as it reminds her of her growing curiosity as a child, and now with the power of AI, Google search can become more successful than ever before.

“The audacity of our mission to organise the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful felt so personal to me.”

Weinstein is focusing on how Google can utilize AI to provide help and answers to questions that are relevant and high-quality. We have seen the use of AI Overview in many different Google searches which summarizes different sources and provides a basis for deeper research into almost any topic. Now there is AI Mode, which allows searches of more detailed questions. This is the kind of work that Weinstein enjoys delving into – making access to information easier. This also includes Google Lens, which lets you take a photo of something and find out how to purchase it, and Gemini Live, which can browse the web and the world around you to act as an assistant.

“After more than 25 years of Search, people are still finding so many new questions to ask. We’ve built a knowledge base of billions of facts — providing people with trusted information in the blink of an eye.”

Impact & Recognition

Debbie Weinstein has made a huge impact at Google and beyond with her passion and dedication in technology that enables everyone to thrive and to grow their businesses. She wants to empower people to express their curiosity in ways that are natural to them, and to be able to learn and find the answers that they seek in innovative ways.

Weinstein has been recognized on the 2025 Top 100 Women in Technology list from Technology Magazine for her incredible work in building accessibility and innovation in digital resources and digital skills, and enabling businesses and individuals to use these technologies to advance and succeed.

“Throughout my eleven years at Google, I’ve seen two things: The first is the boundless nature of human curiosity. And the second is that those who embrace the big shifts, are those who are winning.”
