Jaime Teevan is Chief Scientist and Technical Fellow at Microsoft, where she brings forth her knowledge and expertise to build innovation in the company’s products through the use of AI.

Jaime Teevan’s Background
Teevan began her career in technology at Yale University, where she developed her skills as a computer science major. She wrote her senior thesis on web search, and her thorough research was later acquired by an early web search engine known as Infoseek, which is also where she held her first job.
Jaime Teevan’s time at Yale helped her to become a more creative and flexible thinker, and to conduct scientific research that held the idea of improving lives and making everyday experiences better at its core. In discovering her true passion in technology, she became well-prepared for the future of her career. Teevan earned her Bachelor’s from Yale and earned a Ph.D. in electrical engineering and computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

A Career at Microsoft
Jaime Teevan began her Microsoft career in 2006 as a researcher where she produced 289 publications, over 22,000 citations, and 66 patents. She also developed the first personalized search algorithm used by Bing in addition to conducting research that shaped Bing Distill, M365 Scheduler, and Teams Virtual Commute.
Teevan furthered her work and skills when she later became Technical Advisor to Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s CEO. She was able to develop solutions to technical challenges and work directly with the CEO on key innovative strategies and trend research.
In 2018, Teevan’s career continued its advance throughout Microsoft’s operations when she officially became Chief Scientist, and later received the distinction of Technical Fellow. In this role, she has become a hugely influential figure in AI through pioneering groundbreaking research and conducting product innovation, including the Microsoft 365 Copilot. She became the leader of its creation, striving to improve everyday productivity through the responsible use of AI. Her mission was to allow people to focus more on meaningful work with the assistance of technology.

Influence & Recognition
Jaime Teevan’s work in technology serves as an inspiration and motivation for women in similar fields who wish to introduce their ideas for innovation. Her influence has been recognized through various awards and roles, allowing word of her achievements to be spread far and wide.
She serves as an alumni fellow of Yale’s Board of Trustees, and sits on the Board of Directors for Shutterstock and the Computing Research Association. Her excellent work has made her an Association for Computing Machinery Fellow and recipient of the Karen Sparck Jones award and the Technology Review TR35 Young Innovator award. In 2023, she was recognized by Time magazine as one of the top 100 most influential people in AI.
In addition, Teevan became an Affiliate Professor at the University of Washington in 2012, and it is here that she has mentored and guided graduate students as they prepared for their careers.
