Implementing AI effectively introduces the possibility of tremendous growth and plentiful rewards, however, there are critical steps to AI integrations that some organizations choose to skip. This can result in a lack of guidance, unclear usage frameworks, and stagnant productivity.

One of these critical factors is training the workforce on AI, including what it is, how it will behave, how it will be used, and what each employee’s specific roles and responsibilities entail when it comes to AI.

Organizations across different industries will benefit greatly from investing in AI training for their employees. In this article, learn more about why this is an important part of the journey towards effective and successful AI in the workplace.

Statistics on AI Training in the Workplace

While AI adoptions are rising rapidly, many organizations are lacking in actually training their workforce on these new technologies and innovative tools.

A survey conducted by TripleTen highlights several key statistics on AI’s integration into the workplace. 82% of decision makers say they prefer training current employees in new skills over hiring externally, however, it is not uncommon to witness leadership not moving forward with in-depth AI training.

57% of C-suite respondents felt “completely encouraged” by their employer to use AI tools, but among employees in non-leadership roles, only 27% felt encouraged. In addition, employers are embracing specific AI features, but are lacking in asking their employees to learn the skills to use them. For instance, 43% of employers call using AI chatbots for daily tasks a “must have,” however only 34% of workers have been asked to learn it.

Some employees even feel pressured to try and learn these skills on their own. 46% of workers spent $1,000 or more of their own money on job skills over the past year, highlighting a lack of support in their roles.

AI is most effective when those using it in their daily tasks understand what it is and how it is used.

Importance of AI Training in the Workplace

Preparing the workforce for AI is a critical step of any AI implementation. Ensuring your team is ready and equipped to utilize AI enables its fullest potential and safe usage.

It is important to close any skill gaps in order to gain the most out of your AI integrations. When employees know how to use these tools, it will result in boosted efficiency and productivity across the organization. Each employee has a role to play in overall growth and success, and ensuring that they have the proper means to conduct their role properly is essential.

Responsible use is also a significant result of AI training. It is necessary for employees to understand the right ways to use AI and what information not to use as inputs. In addition, they should understand how to detect signs of bias and hallucinations, and to properly oversee each output to ensure compliance and security.

Effective and in-depth AI training for the workforce not only enables employees to do their jobs correctly and efficiently, but improves organizational reputation and client trust.

Core Factors for AI Training

AI training for employees requires a thoughtful and comprehensive approach. This training should go beyond general overviews to focus on role-specific use and hands-on practice.

At Sedna, we introduce clients to both virtual and in-person training workshops to prepare their workforce for an AI-driven future. These training sessions are tailored to specific industry and organizational needs to ensure teams are equipped with the proper knowledge and skills to use AI effectively and responsibly.

  • AI Literacy: Employees should understand what AI is, how machine learning models work, and how it will fit into the organization. Sedna offers a comprehensive AI 101 program for technical and non-technical teams to ensure AI literacy across the entire organization.

  • Ethical AI Practices: AI is a powerful tool, and understanding how to use it responsibly is crucial. Employees should be aware of what information can and cannot be put into AI tools, how to identify signs of bias, and how to handle privacy risks. Our AI workshops cover AI ethics and enable teams to understand what responsible AI use really means.

  • Role-Specific AI Functions: Beyond the important information on AI that applies organization-wide, it is essential to ensure proper training for specific departments. AI will be used differently in sales, marketing, finance, management, and customer service. This is where a one-size-fits-all approach will not apply; maximizing AI’s effectiveness across every department requires a comprehensive strategy and dedicated effort.

Training and education is a necessary part of AI integrations, and one that will certainly pay off and contribute to organizational growth and success.
